For as long as I can remember...

Candles were a favorite of mine. As a kid I’d take an old soup can, fill it with whatever wax scraps we had from other candles, and melt it in a pot of water. Then forming a candle using whatever jar we had lying around.

As I got older, I was the person who had a stash of candles for every holiday or season. Cue 2020: pandemic hits, I was stir crazy and bored of the same fragrances. So, I grabbed a double boiler, wax and a little guessing to create my own candle.

I was hooked. And then friends were hooked. And then family was hooked. Thanks to some encouragement from a few friends, I decided to share the candles with the world. A few months later, Wood Candle Co was born. Today, my home office has been transformed into a studio where the creativity comes to life; with the help of a podcast or two!

Each candle or wax melt is poured by myself, just outside of Madison, WI, and I can’t wait for you to experience them.

Product care & FAQ

  • A: Yup! Because of the natural properties of soy wax, it is common for the surface to not be perfectly smooth after cooling. It does not affect the candle or its burn.

  • Soy wax is a sustainable choice, derived from renewable soybeans, and it burns cleaner than paraffin, reducing soot and toxins. Its lower melting point also contributes to a longer burn time and more consistent fragrance distribution in candles.

  • To prioritize your safety, we use only clean scents free from carcinogens, reproductive toxins, and other harmful chemicals. Our fragrances adhere to strict safety standards, ensuring they’re safe for you and your loved ones.

Chemicals commonly found in fragrance oils that are considered reproductive toxins include:

    1. Phthalates - Particularly diethyl phthalate (DEP), which is often used to make fragrances last longer. Phthalates can interfere with hormone function and have been linked to reproductive and developmental issues.

    2. Toluene - Found in some synthetic fragrances, toluene is a solvent that can affect the central nervous system and has been associated with reproductive harm.

    3. Styrene - Sometimes used in the production of synthetic fragrances, styrene has been linked to reproductive and developmental toxicity.

    4. Benzophenone - Used as a fixative in fragrances, benzophenone can act as an endocrine disruptor and has been linked to reproductive toxicity.

Thankfully, you'll never find these chemicals in our products.

  • Sure do. Help me save Mother Earth one jar at a time!

  • Soy wax is natural and so this is a side effect of the wax trying to return to it's natural form. It doesn't affect performance and is a great way to know your candle is 100% natural!

candle care

We recommend that your first burn be 2-4 hours, or until you achieve a full melt pool. A full melt pool helps prevent a phenomenon known as tunneling. Soy wax has a 'memory' and if your first burn doesn’t achieve a full melt pool, it can be tough to correct. Subsequent burns can typically be shorter times. When possible, always achieve the melt pool to avoid tunneling.

Before each light, trim the wick to 1/4". For safety, keep candle free of any foreign materials including matches and wick trimmings. Stop burning candles when 1/4" of wax remains.
